Special Relocations

The Company’s portfolio of projects also includes the relocation of structures, i.e. the specialised process of moving a structure (building, monument, installation etc.), from one location to another. There are two key methods to move a structure: disassembling and transporting the structure, and then re-assembling at the new location; and moving it whole. Moving can be done by pushing or sliding the structure or by lifting it and placing it on special motorised wheeled machines (flatbed trucks). Most of the times these are highly complicated and demanding tasks that require extensive preparations, such as temporary constructions, special cuts, soil preparation and reinforcement and the temporary removal of obstacles along the distance to be travelled (overhead cables, poles, trees etc).

The reasons for choosing to relocate a building in this way may, range from urban planning-zoning ones (urban regeneration, construction of new infrastructures etc.) to architectural-aesthetic (landscaping changes), commercial (preservation of a building and relocation due to changes in land use), historical (preservation of monuments that are part of cultural heritage) or even security-related ones (dangerous location, issues with the neighbourhood etc).
